ICE KENJI
Embed in this piece of work I designed
are portraits of me, at the age of four.
A little boy eating an ice cream bar,
in 1963, in one of those old good days,
in those old tender days,
distant from the present-day, full of modernistic designs.
It's a space separated by a structure built of 50mm square wood logs.
A space like a barrierd shelter,
where you might feel tensed inside and have a nostalgic sensation at the same time.
Open the door and walk in.
Once sheltered, you'll find yourself in another world.
You can peek OUT from the inside by sliding doors.
The surfaces of the door and the sliding door are papered with Wa-shi,
Japanese traditional paper.
The edges of these doors are tapered so that the entrances could give a soft impression
against the basically linear structure.
The double sliding doors are finished by coating Wa-shi with Urushi,
Japanese traditional lacquer.
The copper table is inspired by the shape of a lotus leaf.
Look into the acrylic glass, and you'll find the little boy again.
I hope he will bring a smile to you.
